Re: 94 s-10 set timing wire
disconnect the timing wire in that photo.
Time vehicle to whatever you stock base timing should be for your engine. Use a timing gun. Reconnect the timing wire, reset the computer by pulling the negative battery cable for 5 minutes or so and enjoy.

Re: 94 s-10 set timing wire
as long as the ecm is disconnectedfrom the dist, all you have to do is set cyl 1 for 0 degrees TDC, then flash your light on the timing mark on the dist/crank pully, lock the dist down, reconnect the ecm, and enjoy... With late 95 and up models, essentially the dist is locked in one position and the ecm does the rest, but it it still 0 degrees TDC... Though these can be a bear when not marked as you pull the dist. If you are 1 tooth off in either direction, most times the truck won't start or you have the dist 180 out....On these it takes me usually 2 or 3 tries to get it in right....(that's what she said...ya ya...LOL)

Where is the wire?
I have read forums everywhere and I have been out to my 95 Blazer 4 times looking, I even took off the plastic cover under the dash but under the passenger side dash does not look like the great picture you showed. My 95 has CPI and I have been all over the engine compartment as well. I cannot find the elusive tan and white wire or the connector. Sorry for the redundance. I also want to ask why it is a bad idea to block the EGR valve? I have had to take mine off twice to unlodge chucks of carbon caught in the valve.
Frustrated and fried! |

Re: 94 s-10 set timing wire
I've got a 94...do I even have a set timing wire?
And should I be resetting the computer after setting the timing? |

DO NOT block of your egr, at most only do a restrictor plate. Make the plate in the same shape as a gasket. Make the top hole the same size as the gasket's hole so that the pintle can move freely, make the bottom hole 5/32. If you set an SES then increase by 1/32. That will help with keeping the carbon down as well as give you some better low-mid range torque.
