ford engine/transmission combatibilty

i have a '69 f-100 with a 300 in-line and a ford 3-speed tranny. just bought a '78 f-150 with a automatic tranny and a 302. Know will my 3 speed tranny be able to handle the 302 in the 78 f-150.

My guess?-Yes.The 300 I 6 has more low end torque than the 302.As for any production changes or compatibilities-no idea.

Re: ford engine/transmission combatibilty

The three speed should have the CAPEABILITY to handle the 302, but COMPATABILITY is a different issue. My guess is that it would be fine. might need a new bell-housing.
