Signal Light Problem

I have a 96 Windstar GL. When I use the right hand signal light it doesnt always work. I can hear it "clicking" but they are not working and doesnt flash on the dashboard. Sometimes I can get it to work by moving the switch just right. It seems to depend on the position of the steering wheel. Any ideas??

Re: Signal Light Problem

your turn signal switch may need to be replaced it sounds like a wire is broken inside the steering column. or it could be dirty if you can take the steering column cover off and have a look see. if you have to take it in go to a body shop the rates are lower then a mech. and they handle these types of repairs.

Have you ever gotten the wiring problem repaired /checked, Taurus guy? I have a 96/ Windstar GL as well and the wiring harness connector from the control arm(washer, wipers and signal) was snipped /damaged in some way assuming from the tilting of the steering column and tight connector area. I had to solder the joint and then it came apart again and then had to go to the wrecker and pick up a harness for "$0" because they had no idea what price they could /should charge, but I also picked up a tensioner pulley as well for the serpentine belt. Anyways.. the harness fromt he control arm to the next connector or harness under the dash is not an easy one to get at. Yet I completed in about 2 hours completely and working fine today! I can give you the run down if you have to go in there because I made notes along the way and also to get at the instrument cluster/ panel lights to clean and replace a burnt bulb.
