In progress - Ski trip WRX
A really long term project I have going it a ski-trip diorama, that will center around a WRX. The diorama will have the WRX at a gas pump, being filled up, with two folks sitting inside, out of the cold. There will be considerable scratch work in the interior, and a scratchbuilt gas pump being operated by a Tamiya rally mechanic, and inside will be two heavily modified Hasagawa ski people and their gear. On the roof will be two snowboards and a pair of skis.
Here is the WRX so far: ![]() ![]() ![]() Still more snow (not much) and some ice to put on after I've finally mated the interior and the body shell. So I guess this makes progress thread #45 for me. Oh well.

Re: In progress - Ski trip WRX
Looks awesome. Only problem I see is that there isnt snow in the background, so it makes for an unrealist diorama.
![]() Now you are going to paint that board rack...right? I'm diggin the snowboards.

Re: In progress - Ski trip WRX
looking great so far willemo, but remember, if the vehicle has already been driving in snow, its going to have lots of dirty slush built up in the wheel wells behind the tires.

Re: In progress - Ski trip WRX
The snow I used is by a company called "Techstar." If you put that into google with "snow" you will find a couple places that sell it, but it is hard to find. It is better, but only marginally than the more available Woodland Scenics stuff. In retrospect, I would have rathered use Woodland Scenics because it is cheaper and you can get a lot of it, so I would have been able to dunk the car into the snow instead of sifting it on.
Thanks for the tips about the slush behind the wheels and making the wheels dirty, but don't worry! The behind-the-wheel slush is very important and I haven't missed them! If you notice, the interior is not in, I wanted to do the interior after I decided that the body was ok. No point in doing all that interior work and scratch the project on account of not being able to make the snow look realistic. I plan on doing the slush, and weathering the wheels after putting it all together. I've just done the body so far. And yes, this dash is the one I used in the RHD -> LHD tutorial.

Re: In progress - Ski trip WRX
Hey,
I hadn't noticed the lack of interior. But cool. If you are planning on making this a stock usdm wrx, you should get the hoodscoop from the rall kit. It is the wrx scoop. The one in the road car kit is for the STi. Keep up the goodness Will. Frank X. |
