2001 Solara Check engine and trac control light on

I took it to the dealer and was told the charcoal filter had to be replaced at a cost of $1000 plus.

Car has only 37,000 miles but this part is only covered up to 36 months. I am now worried that I may fail emissions test when the next inspection is done.

Has anyone had similer problem?

Thanks
