1997 Civic EX oil pan

Has anyone used an afetrmarket steel oil pan for a '97 Civic EX? Mine has stripped drain plug threads and I have been told that repairs on these pans usually do not hold up very well. As new ones cost around $300 and used ones are around $100 I have been considering one fron Advance Auto, but none of the mechanics that I have talked to have had any experience with them.

a cheap easy fix for the time being, or a while, is using a drain plug from a Ford oil pan....I know I know....sounds crazy....I got an oil change at Wal-Mart once, whoops (but it was cheap) and the inbred moron they had change my oil over tightened the plug and stripped it. Rather than replace the pan they plugged it with a Ford plug (slightly larger) and that seemed to work just fine, and for quite a while, the plug worked for the next year I had it over many 'o' oil changes - I drove A LOT and changed the oil religously.

my best advice on the steel pan...what's it treated with? Easy place to rust. Can work up quite a bit of heat, is it treated to withstand serious heat without warping?

I say pull a leftover from a recycler somewhere.

Re: 1997 Civic EX oil pan

the only problem with retapping a honda pan is usually the drain plug is too short, find a plug with the same thread pitch, but alot longer, and it should be fine, or buy an oem pan....aftermarket stuff from parts store suck
