Tranny shifting woes

I have a 96 Aurora and was wondering if anyone can help diagnose this transmission problem. it started last night, it shifts smoothly and normally until it gets to 4th gear then immediately shifts back to third and stays there. It doesn't matter if I accelerate slow or fast, it does the same thing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure it's going to third and not second?
Do a search on "shift solenoids" and see if it looks like your problem.

Yes, it would up-shift three times when accelerating then downshift for no reason. Yesterday it worked OK for a few times. I'll check the solenoids, thanks for the info.

Re: Re: Re: Tranny shifting woes

hey
i have a tranny that was shifting out of gear then wouldn't go above 2nd (computer does this to protect the tranny) - turned out there's a screen between the two solenoids that just floats around after it ages because it's held in place with an rubber o-ring.

Replacement kit is available with aluminum L-bracket to hold a new screen in place. Comes with solenoids because the screen bangs on the solenoids causing damage.
Total cost $330
