Question no heat and antifreeze leak

hey guys, my heat blows cold air and i have recently noticed antifreeze leaking from the drivers side rear of the engine. at first i thought it might be a heater core but doesnt that make the defrost worse?? my defrost works fine its just cold air.

Re: no heat and antifreeze leak

its got to be the heater core or the hoses leading to it.

Re: no heat and antifreeze leak

does a foul smell come out of the vents? also check under your passenger side floor mat for antifreeze, thats where it would drip from your heater core to.

Re: no heat and antifreeze leak

that is why i am in doubt for the heater core.. there are no sweet odors from the vents and the passenger side floor is dry.

Re: no heat and antifreeze leak

If your only getting warm air, I would bet the farm that heater core is plugged, or partially plugged. I did mine, its not that big of a deal. Go on get your hands dirty, you know you want to

You can run a garden hose to it, and see if there is any crap in it.

The leak is coming from the firewall, or the engine block?

Check on line, I would figure about $30.

Well having no heat can just mean that your low on coolant, hence the leak. That alone wont direct you to a bad part. Where is the coolant coming from, the motor, hoses, firewall, etc?

Re: no heat and antifreeze leak

it looks like the coolant is dripping down to the drivers side rear of the engine bay. i personally have never seen a coolant leak there, hence why i ask what it could be.

Good point, low or no coolant will result in poor heating. Heater cores are pretty cheap, about under $20 bucks in store, if that's the case.

First thing you really need to do is find where the leak is coming from. Have the sytem pressure tested to pinpoint the exact leak.
