Engine Light, P0172
I'm getting a P0172 error code which I believe means the car is running lean.
I live in Phoenix, AZ I have a 2000 Jetta GLS K&N drop-in filter Bosch P4s intalled after engine light, thinking it was a bad spark in one or more chambers. I lost a spark plug last year and it stipped the port hole. The dealer replaced all plugs, wires, and also cleaned the injectors. Could that have caused the pressure build up to force the plug out. I saw the plug it was very baddly damaged. I'm now thinking the injectors may be the problem. How often do they need to be cleaned. What is everyones expeience with this code? |

Re: Engine Light, P0172
P0172 is system running too rich. Code can be set due to diluted engine oil, bad O2 sensor, too high fuel pressure or bad injectors. I'd find a scanner that can read the O2 sensor's datastream & see if the sensor is bad

Could be a MAF sensor- they all suck on 99-01 thats why vw extended warranty to 7yr 70kmiles. Also check the vacuum hose for fuel pressure regulator.

Re: Engine Light, P0172
I'm 99% sure that's going to be a MAF... I've got a 2000 VR6 and have to replace my MAF once a year. 1-800-VW-PARTS will hook you up, never buy from the dealer. It's seriously two bolts, a hose clamp, and a plug. Then just take it to pep boys, advanced auto, kragan, auto zone... your local garage, and have them reset the code. (or give it a few days to turn off the light)
