Rear wheel drive option-1994 -Where is it?

Hi,
We just bought a 1994 Grand Cherokee and can't figure out where the rear wheel drive option is or what it is? I understand that it can be used for optimal gas mileage and right now the jeep is getting 16 mpg...is that average mpg for this jeep?

I cant help you until yuou tell me what engine you have, Inline 6 or V8. And what type of All Wheel Drive system do you have? My 95 GC has Quadra-Trac All Wheel Drive. Once I know, then I may be able to help you.

It is a V-8 engine and the all wheel drive shift is on the floor next to the regular gear shift box, which is also on the floor/console. Sorry I don't know the correct terminology.

Where would I find the identification for which type of 4-wheel drive system it is? Thanks again.

With shift lever it's either a command trac or a selec trac
both are in 2 w/d mode when lever is fully seated toward the dash board.
the 4 w/d light ( amber or green) on dash will be out. You may have the instructions on the drivers sun visor

The V8 models come with the Quadratrac and the I6 has the Selectrac unless someone has swapped transfer cases.

Quadratrac is the full time 4wd with 3 positions on the shifter. (4Hi N 4LO)

It should say Quatratrac on the trim around the shifter.
