17 Inch Tires on a 1997 Prelude

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has an idea if i put 215/45R17 on my 1997 Prelude stock height instead of 205/50/r16 if i'll have any rubbing or problems???? Thabks

You probably wont.. 215s are fairly small for a 17 inch wheel.

215/45 will raise the overall diameter by a bit, but it should be fine. You can also go 225/40 (which will be closer to your stock overall diameter)

I doubt you'll have any rubbing problems with either choice, the stock fenderwells on preludes are pretty big.

i thought the 205, 215, 225 was the width of the tire and the 40, 45 was the thickness from the rim to the edge of the tire...

Yes, that's correct, but the second number, is measured in proportion to the first. So as an example; 205/50/R16 would be near equal (off by 1.9%) to 215/45/R16.

So 205/50 and 225/50 will not have the same "profile" (thickness from the rim to edge of tire); even though they have the same second number.

i ran 215/45/17 and had slight rubbing issues for the rear during extremely hard turning or going over a bump at a certain angle. may need to roll the fenders out just a tad

Is your car a 1997 Prelude and was it lowered mine is at factory settings.

mine was a 98. but lowered about 1.5".
