Injectors 7.3L

Hi,
I don't know alot about deisel motors but I know the basics, a friend told me that on the 7.3L the injectors are in or under the heads. Can someone tell me if this true? I went from gas to deisel so I have to learn about this new animal.
Thanks in advance for any info.

Re: Injectors 7.3L

Yes they do go thru the heads. You can see the tops of them if you pull off a valve cover.

Re: Injectors 7.3L

The 7.3L Power Stroke injectors are electrically switched, oil actuated injectors. They fit under the valve cover, and into the head where they get both the high pressure oil and fuel from (riflings in head). The injector tip protrudes from the cylinder head into the combustion chamber about 1/4" (it's less, but you get the idea).

The 7.3L (older models with injection lines) screw into the head outside of the valve cover, and the tips DO NOT protrude into the combusion chamber.

So, it depends on which model you have.

The 7.3 oil operated injectors recieve base fuel pressure of 40-60 psi while the old style with individual fuel lines recieve high pressure fuel
