need help badly

oki have a 1989 caprice slassic and the speedometer is really really being wierd it dosent work unless the key is off or if its dropped into neutral i have been to like 5 differnt mechanic and i am stumped if anyone can help me out there please email me at [email protected] i would really appreciate it thanks

Wow, thats unusual.... is it a digital speedometer? Check in the dash area for any loose, bare, or chaffing wires, and the same for the electric wire leading to the tranny. Its also possible that the speedometer itself is shot. Try to get ahold of another one possibly from a junkyard, or even a universal one from an auto parts store, and see if that works when hooked up... I can't really think of anything else, hopefully someone else can help out.

well its not a digital speedometer its all stock besides the system but i went and took one out of the junkyard from an 84 and it looks the same but havent got around to changing it et but any othere suggestions would haelp thanks dan

yea its cruise but the cruise dosent work either? any suggestions?

The spedo cable sometimes break at the splitter on the wheel well the wiring is connected there as well check the ground for been clean and tight as the other wires for breaks the cable might look fine but end could break inside splitter so not turning
