can't get in!

I have a beautiful 89 750iL, dream to drive, but can't get into it at the moment. I tried the 'emergency' manual option of lifting up the handle and turning the key further but that doesn't work either. The boot opens with no problem. The battery is not flat and so at first I thought the key might have been a bit worn so had that recut. Still no good. I suspect that the lock is short circuiting or something because they key becomes very hot when I pull it out! Has anyone else had this problem or know anything about it?

The key might just be hot if the heater in the lock is overdoing things and warming it up, tho' if you do have a short, you should have blown a fuse. Fuse number 17 controls the door lock heating, numbers 20, and 31 are for the central locking itself and these are rated at 7.5Amp each. They should be found in the front power box under the bonnet. Maybe check them out. Also the ZKE or 'general' module (controls central locking amongst other things)which is in beside the LKM in the square black box under the bonnet. On my right hand drive car, it's situated up in the corner below the windscreen and the passenger side wing (fender?) Maybe an obvious question, but did you try to open the car by the passenger door?
Hope this helps.

Re: can't get in!

Flywheel, Thank You! I have a 1988 735i, and currently, my front passenger door will not unlock manually, with the key, or with the remote. It didn't occur to me that it may be a blown fuse. Thanks for your post. I'll give that a try and see if it corrects the problem. I'd really like to be able to use the front passenger side of the car!
