87 help
I picked up my stang on friday night...my cousin delivered it for me...ive just yard driven it so far. At idle...the idle goes back and forth from 800 to 1200 constantly...never goes to stall or anything like that...just hops. Now my cousin and the guy who sold it to me claim its from the cam...a couple of my friends say its gotta be a vaccum leak...or worse. I thought a big cam made motors idle like that? Im not too big on v8's...the only one i had was in my lincoln..and that didnt get too much attention this side of performance. The motor was also recently installed...so im doubtful that its anything internally. Its also low on gas and sat for about a year..so is bad gas possible? It sounded great when it was on the throttle or revved. Sorry for the babble..but i wanna get this thing road ready asap. again thanks in advance

Re: 87 help
Hunting idle, mine does it from time to time. If you invest in a tweecer you can sort it out, if its been converted to mass air.
"Not too big in V8s" Dude, that is where the big power is

Re: 87 help
If it constantly revs and falls like that I would say its the TPS on a SD car.

Re: 87 help
I've experienced the exact same problem, heck that's all I'm trying to read about now lately. I've done so many things to try to calm that idler down. I've looked over and replaced all the vaccum hoses, replaced the pcv valve, replaced the spark plugs, replaced distributor cap and rotor, replaced o2 sensors replaced tps replaced and replaced the valve behind the tps valve I forgot what it's called....and it has brought me to.....NO WHERE!!!! This has been an on going struggle that has been for a Year! I found on the internet that if you experience this problem to do the plugs, and then check for the entire fuel system, fuel filter, fuel pump. Idle air by pass valve, throttle body, and fuel pressure it should be at 38 PSI with vaccum line off. If it still persists, set fuel pressure to 42-45psi or clean out air by pass valve located off the throttle body. Oh and also to have the fuel injectors professionally cleaned. Sorry it's so long, but I feel for you!!!
