Not on and moving

I sometimes use my feet to move my car when it's in neutral and not on. Is that bad?

Use your feet? Like fred flintstone? I can't see how it could hurt it but how do you used your feet?

Its a little harder on an auto than it would be a 5 speed. It wouldnt cause a whole lot of issues in an auto unlkess moved a significant distance.

LOL Yeah, like Fred Flintstone. I just get too lazy to turn it back on but I guess if there is some type of probability of it harming my car then I'll stop being lazy.

this in no problem as long as it is short distances. i actualy am a bit annoyed when i do this becouse i get to "lazy" to start the car. as the key needs to be in the ignision and your feet on the pedal to be able to move the stick to drive

Yeah, I only "travel" (if you'd even call it that - LOL) a couple inches. Old and good, are you saying that you get annoyed when you move the car without it being on or when you do turn it on to move it? :o/

It dosent hurt the car as long as its in Neutral. I do it all the time, the other day I parked blocking my sisters spot at my moms house so when she came home she was like "should I go over your car or through it" I smiled and dropped the handbrake and moved it by pusing on the door frame. she was like " seriously, are you that lazy" me: "nah, I just dont want to waste battery power and gas if its only gonna go a few inches".

Also on topic. when you guys park do you put your car in gear? if so which gear and why? here is why I ask. My dad bitches at me alot cause I always leave it in N and just lift the hand brake....yes yes I know, its no safe to trust the e-brake alone but I live in Miami, absolutely no hills at all! also my friend had an SE-R and always left it in first. one day in a parking lot at the mall a van pulled out tapped his car kinda hard and pushed it back like a foot or so... it tore his tranny up real bad. the mechanic explained the the force acted up against the gears and tore it, he advised him to always leave it in N. and so I do! My other friend has an STI and always followed my advise until a few weeks ago. he was reading up on some STI forum and they bashed him for not leaving it in gear when its parked, I cant think of why though!

I usually leave my car in N when I park since she's usually parked on a flat surface. If she's parked uphill, I leave her in first. If she's parked downhill, I leave her in reverse. But yeah, after the example you gave about what happened to your friend, I'm definitely keeping it in neutral whenever I can. Don't have the money to spend on a new tranny.

Side story, my friend had a BMW (I forget what type) and installed an alarm with the remote start feature on it. Well, he was showing off one day and forgot that his car was in first gear so when he pushed the buttons to start it, his car rammed into the wall in front of him. LOL Sad day....

^ yeah dude, that actually happens so often that some shops have completely stopped installing remote ignition on manuals. I had to pay extra and under the table to get it on my old Talon.

Oh, so that's why they stopped installing the remote start stuff? I never knew why but when I was going around trying to find someone to do my car over the summer, everyone just kept telling me no because it's illegal. But yeah, I never did get it done (the remote start feature) because I heard there could be problems that could arise as a result....don't know if it's true or not but I just played it safe.

Always out of gear for me, of course when my dad drives he puts it in first when he parks and when I start the car I take my foot off of the clutch and stall lol.

If you ask me its stupid not to put it in gear when you park. Just because its level doesnt mean something couldnt happen and it could roll into something even with the parking brake on. If someone hit a vehicle while its parked and it tore up the tranny that will be covered by insurance because its a result of the accident. I always leave the car in gear and put the e brake on. Its just asking for trouble if you dont.

Unless you have a turbo timer, and cant leave it in gear.

I see no point it putting it in gear, if your ebrake doesnt work fix it.

And on that note autos park feature stops the wheels from moving via the trans, but it is considered safer to use the e-brake.

yeah Slade its true, problems do often arise from installing remote starts. it happened to me twice, that why I didnt get it on Musashi. but isa a gamble, ive known guys who have had it for more years then I did and nothing ever happened to them.

Stealthe, this guy I told ya about. the dude that hit him got away with it. he said the car was dropped so low that he couldnt see it via his rearview and the court ruled in his favor, also cause of the mods he did the insurance company denied him coverage and he ended up paying out of his pocket. the car was dropped but not drasticallly, still it was dropped below legal standard (which is stock practically) and so he got screwed big time. It happened to me as well but thats a story for another time.

I'm just gonna get wheel stops like what they use on airplanes and have my wife put on a hard hat and dirrect me out of parking spots with two huge glow sticks!
