brake noise and steering noises!

I just bought an '01 escape and I noticed that when I am driving, I use the brakes, and when I take my foot off the petal, a semi loud screaming noise is coming from near the pedal. Its not the pads or when I am braking, but after, and in the cabin. Does anyone know what this is? Is it normal?

ALSO...

I noticed that the stearing wheel makes a swishing type noise when i turn in. Seems right at the weel or near the U-joint under the dash. Does anyone notice that? Is that normal?

I still have 90 days warranty at the dealer where I bought it. Thanks!

cody

I have the same swishing noise at the steering wheel (2002 Escape).
Started after warranty expired. Don't know what it is. I can't hear it at higher speeds or when radio is on.

Bring it in since it's on warranty.

Hi,

I had the same problem with the woosh sound. I had warrenty on my truck so I brought it in. They change the entire steering column. My brakes sweeked alot to. They fixed it as well but I don't know how, I didn't ask.

Re: brake noise and steering noises!

I have a 2001 Mazda Tribute that has developed the same brake noise described. Can you tell me if Ford determined the problem and what is was?

Thanks

Re: brake noise and steering noises!

I have seen the clock-spring located behind the steering wheel cause noise conditions when turning. Plastic on plastic noise. Replaced several of them.
