Engine starting problems

Hi all,

Every so often i have a problem starting my 99 intrigue with the 3.5 engine. I would start the car as i normally would and the rpms would go to about 1000 or so. But after it goes up there it would fall down. It would then either catch and go back up and everythign would be fine or the engine would just die.

anyone know what this problem is?

Re: Engine starting problems

Hmm interesting problem. How many miles are on it?

Try this: When the car is up around 1000 RPM, then give it a little gas. Sometimes when my car starts rough, I'll give it a little gas to get it running better. Normally it will get up to about 1500 RPM, then drop to about 800 RPM. But when it's rough, it weakly sputters it's way up to 650-700 RPM.

Re: Re: Engine starting problems

well if it drops down and dies i give it a little gas next time. But sometimes it drops and climbs back up and be fine. When i say drop i mean it goes to about 200-300 RPMs. I have only about 48,000 miles on it.

I had the same problem I think

Car would try to start but would only sputter and cause it to back fire.

Turned out to be the throttle position sensor located in the throttle body fastened by 2 screws. About $110 cdn. for the part and 30mins to install by yourself.

Hope this help
