17s with 1.5 inch drop?

if i bought 17s with 205/17/40s and dropped the car 1.5... would it clear without rubbing? i have a 2000 civic si. and is that a good clean height? or should i drop it more? i just want the tires to clear the wheel well.. thanks

Re: 17s with 1.5 inch drop?

it depends on the offset of the wheel & width.

Ummm... you cannot have an offset of 35mm AND a back spacing of 5.5" Offset=back spacing.

But 17x7" or 17x7.5" wheels with 35mm offset will not work on a Civic.

i didn't know the difference between back spacing and offset.. my bad. but wow that seems really weird that those wont fit. arent all 17s either 17x7 or 17x7.5? what size will fit then? if that is something that could be answered. or would i just have to buy wheel spacers?

You really need to start using http://www.google.com All I typed was wheel offset.

There are thousands of wheel combinations. Especially for 17" wheels. 17x6", 17x6.5", 17x7", 17x7.5", 17x8", 17x9", etc.... You realize that there are plenty of different cars on the road, right?

For a Civic you need 17x7" 42-44mm offset and 205/40x17" tires. But I recommend 15s or 16s not 17s.

while im talking to you.. you have your car dropped 2 inthe front and 1.75 in the back.. do you like that setup? and if i do drop my car 1.5, will i need to realign? and i want to know your personal opionion on Tokico High Performance Springs and Tokico Adjustable Illumina Struts and Omni-Power adjustable front camber kits and rear shim kit...(with 1.5 inch drop)... or should i go with something like what you have? but without the strutbars and swaybars. and how much did that cost you?

I'm actually dropped 2.25" now. It's a bit low and I catch things once in awhile.

Whenever you change the suspension you need an alignment.

I don't know much about the Tokico springs and struts. I had the Illiminas on my 1993 Civic and they were ok. I would suggest the Omnipower Coilover system. Everyone has been raving about them.

How much did what cost me?

Koni Yellows w/custom Ground Controls=$900
Skunk2 front camber kit=$150
INgalls rear camber kit=$100
Comptech rear sway bar/tie bar=$350
Neuspeed front upper strut bar=$120
Neuspeed front lower strut bar=$100
Neuspeed rear upper strut bar=$150
Energy Suspension bushings=$120 ($500 for installation)

With a 1.5" drop you don't need a camber kit, maybe for the rear to bring it within specs. But some negative camber is good for cornering. Also remember your suspension is only as good as your tires.

Well I have been autocrossing for about 8 years now. I've read alot of books, and got people's teachings. Plus all these great forums too.

Autocrossing heavily relies on suspension tuning.
