I have a '92 Taurus with the same problem. I haven't tried the WD40 stuff, but I think my switches are not in the latch (except maybe the tailgate one - it's a wagon). I'm going to check it out later. Anyway, I removed the fuse same as you want to do, and on my car I beleive it was fuse number 7, a blue fuse near the top. I don't have the book with me right now, so I'll go check it later and let you know if I was wrong. Also this is a different model year so may be slightly different. I have a 1996 manual in front of me, and that one is different, it says fuse number 2 (there was a major body style change that year, so it is probably different than yours). I'll scan some pictures for you later "tonight" so you can make sure it is the right one. If you get it "fixed" in the meantime, please let me know so I don't waste the time scanning and posting. Be warned that pulling that fuse will probably also kill your radio (it did mine).

Sorry, it was fuse number 8, not number 7. Let me know if you need a scan.

check the door jamb switches, one may be broken or something, un screw them one at a time and unplug them one at a time see if the lights go out. 5 or 6 bucks at advance auto parts round here.

my 96 has the same problem. I dont have a door switch like in an older taurus. I couldn't find the fuse so I took the bulbs out of the doors. it doesn't do it all the time though. im glad my dome light has an off switch.lol

It is fuse number 2 on a 96 Taurus. The numbers should be listed on the fuse box cover. I can scan the manual if you want. The switches should be in the latch itself on a 96 Taurus, so you might try oiling them with some WD-40 (as mentioned in another thread), that is in the latch mechanism (the door has to be open to get to it), not the handle.

I removed the switches last night. I didn't realize that removing the switch would turn the light off, or I would have tried that first thing (thanks!). It was the rear driver side door. I haven't replaced it yet because I had to order the part, but the main thing is that I can put fuse back in and now can listen to the radio or read the clock or use the interior lights (except when I only open the back door). Thanks!
