Accident (Body Help Needed)

Well today I went to Safeway and parked 5-10 parking stalls away from any other car. I went in got breakfast and something to drink and I come back out and this is what my car looks like.

A Safeway employee saw the "accident". Some late 30's early 40's lady got into her red van that was parked next to me and started backing up. She hit my car (at the door) and keep going. She then pull up past my car got out and looked at my car then left. She didn't leave any kind of identity so I could call her. The employee didn't get her liscense so now I have to fix this, my insurance won't pay they said the other driver is responsable. So my questions are
1- Where would I be able to get a new panel
2- How hard would a new panel be to install
3- How much would a shop charge to pull this dent
4- How much clearance is there between that fender and the gas tank (I have a dent puller but you have to drill through the metal)

Re: Accident (Body Help Needed)

Would Safeway have a video camera in their parking lot, or possibly one of the neighboring businesses?

Nope, I talked to the manager he said they don't have camera's. Its also by itself so there are no neighboring businesses

Unless you just have liability insurance your co. had better pay for hit and run...also, file a police report.

Yes if you have full coverage insurance they have no choice but to fix it and if you dont I suggest that you go get it first thing monday. Also like Morley said go file a police report. Also trade contact info (name and number) with the witness maybe the lady who hit your car is a regular and he/she can call you if she shows back up so you can get the police involved and maybe get your money back.

Re: Accident (Body Help Needed)

Viper , that truly does suck but on the good side it could have been much worse. However while everyone makes a good point that his insurance would cover it if he has collision but he most likely has a deductible of 500-1000. In which case the cost of his damage will come out of his pocket and if reported to his insurance all he will do is cause his insurance to go up. Good Luck though.

I found out we do have full insurance coverage with a $500 deductable. I don't really want to report this to insurance though because I am only 17 and my rates would go up even more. On a diffrent note how hard is this going to be to fix?

His deductable could be much less though. Possibly in the $50 to $100 dollar range.... I know mine is around $50

Re: Accident (Body Help Needed)

Honestly I would let a professional do the work. That is quite a bit for someone with no body work experience....

I agree with Cuda get a estimate, they are free and from a novice's point of view it looks like about $500-600 worth of damage.

Re: Accident (Body Help Needed)

It's going to cost a lot more than 500- 600 in my own opinion....

Yeah its prolly about $1000 in damage there, both the door and fender need new metal. You could get replacements out of a junkyard and try to repair it yourself but if you havent done this stuff b4 you may want to get it done by the pros. Trust me its nice to have a camaro but it sucks if you have one thats messed up, it just makes you lose interest in the car.
