Well. just dump 4 quarts in. Then dump in more accordingly to your dipstick. You don't have to use synthetic oil, but it helps. My 99 cavy takes 4.5 quarts. Remember to give it time to get into the filter and blah blah while you are dumping it in.... Just start out at 4 and add about a quarter of a quart until the dipstick reads.

^^ If you have no idea, don't attempt it on that car. It has a special oil filter and what have you. Search old posts because i put up pics on how to.

Re: 2002 Cavalier oil capacity

I just changed the oil in my 2002 cavvy a few days ago. It took 4 quarts of mobil 1 supersyn. Changing the oil in the 2002 is a bit cramped depending on how tall you are and your arm size. The filter is located directly above the exhuast pipe, so when you take that off you will most likely drip some onto the pipe and create a burning oil smell for a day or two. I suggest putting a towel over the pipe to keep this from happening. To remove the oil pan bolt use a 5/8ths socket or just a wrench. Let the oil drain for a good 30 minutes or more until a ver slow trickle is coming out. Then put the bolt back in and tighten it down. When installing the new filter make sure to put some new oil on the threads of the filter where the bolt screws in, screw the filter on tightly then start adding your new oil. It's best that your car be level when you're adding the new oil and checking it so you get an accurate reading. Well I believe thats all to it. Make sure to not throw away your old oil, accept in an approved oil recycling bin.
