Another WRX STi (pics inside)

Here is my Tamiya WRX STi, it was completed about a month and a half ago. It was built box stock, and my second model ever. The interior went almost perfectly (except for the chrome dash, which looks horrible handpainted) but the exterior was another cookie altogether.

Since I didn't have TS-50 I decided to paint it Testors Model Masters Black Metallic enamel, in a spray can. It went along great except for three things 1.) The Spoiler broke in two after spraying, fracturing the paint 2.) I accidently chipped the left headlight's paint when I dropped it once 3.) I sprayed the underchassis too heavily, hiding virtually all the fine detail

So I didn't feel like spending $5 for another spray can of paint, so I bought the bottle version of the paint I used. I discovered that the shade was much darker than the spray can version. However, with sufficient sanding, a medium could be achieved, then glosscoated with Future to produce the same shade. So I sanded the entire model with 3M 1500 grit, then 2000 grit wet and dry, then coated with Future. However I then tried to sand the Future a day after it was dry, and it went all AWOL on me. so I had to strip the Future off and recoat it...but of course the strip didn't go cleanly, and the resulting coat of future had bumps in it...which you can see in the pictures

I fixed the spoiler with putty and brush painted it...as a result it is much darker than the rest of the body

I prefer not to look at the underchassis of the model, it's painted horribly, and I prefer to keep my vision

Anyway, enough rambling, here are the pics:

A note about the front suspension, it broke so I can cause instant lowering on the front tires, and random brake caliper position...observe

A second note about the lighting...there were 3 sources of light in this photo, flurosecent, incadescent, and natural sunlight...the yellow lights are the incandescent, the blue tint is from the fluroscent, and the sunlight isn't really visible...I have to get some blue and yellow filters from the camera shop sometime :sun:

Anyway, hope you enjoyed it Tell me what you think

1 word, DUSTY
Over all not bad, but some part are clearly unevenly painted. Still pretty good for you second model!

The brake caliper, you can glue in place if you want to. Its weird that you have it now freely rotating.

Thanks for the comments everybody.

jay - Yup, the kit comes with foil to use for the lights, and the headlights are already chromed

MX100 - Cool, can't wait to see it, it'll be like twins

Maybe someday I'll wipe off all the dust lol
