different tranny fluid

98 4 cyl. automatic

Wondering if you can use a different tranny fluid than the diamond spII. Pep Boys has a penzoil fluid that says it's ok for mitsubishi... just wondering if anyone has had any success with it (or a similar product).

Re: different tranny fluid

I know the last time I took my galant in for a trans flush they (non-dealer) had to buy a separate additive to put in with their standard Dexron III fluid. (At least that's what their database said they should do). Usually you can just check the owner's manual to see the fluid requirements for each component. Having a knowledgeable counter-person at the auto parts store doesn't hurt either.

Re: different tranny fluid

the local dealership will sell it for $3.50 a quart, so I think I'll just pick it up there.

Thanks for the feedback... I won't use anything crazy. : )
