I just got thru replacing the intake gaskets on my 97 Z71, (5.7 litre). Went to start it up after everything was done, but it wont crank. With one exception, everything is working as it should......the headlights come on as they should when the key is turned (the "daytime running lights"), and they go off as the key is turned to start. Dash lights, gauges, radio, all work fine. But when the key is turned turned to start, I hear a click which I think is the headlights turning off (as they always have), but nothing else. Thought it must be a low battery (fairly new), until I realized that the a/c and heater fan does not come on either. Nothing at all happens as I go thru the 4 speeds of the blower fan. Does anyone know if there is a relay or fuse that would affect both the starter and blower fan? Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Re: replaced gaskets, now truck wont start....helpppp
Double check that the battery cables are tight and clean. It sounds like a bad connection from your description.

first check the engine ground wires i bet you missed one. also check all the fuses both under the hood and in the dash. carefully go over your work something you did screwed it up so it shouldn't be too hard to find the loose/ disconected wire. good luck

Re: replaced gaskets, now truck wont start....helpppp
Many thanks to those who took time to answer. It was indeed a ground wire I had missed, didn't find it until I decided to work on flushing the cooling system. While pulling the lower radiator hose from the water pump, I found the wire jammed underneath there. The problem turned out to be a blessing tho, since my neighbor, an electronics whiz, came over to troubleshoot. I ended up learning a lot about checking and bypassing the relays......he had the truck running long before I found the loose wire. Anyway, thanks again.
