Is It Hard To Tune Up An 86 Grand Marquis ?
Ok, I bought an 86 grand marquis last year from a Church pastor, he was original owner. It had 90k miles on it, i paid 500.00, i put 25k miles on it, it runs great and i like the car, i feel very safe in it. I thnik its due for a tune up. Can someone tell me what exactly a tune up entails on that car? I want to try it myself if possible. Also, any opinion on that year Merq. I would love to hear. I think I did good. I cant say I notice any problems with the exception of a leaky door, i need to change the gasket......

Re: Is It Hard To Tune Up An 86 Grand Marquis ?
Had an '86 myself. Your tune up should include at least new spark plugs, distributor cap, and rotor (inside the distributor). If your plug wires are old, then you may want to look into a new set.
Replacing the air filter every 15K and the fuel filter every 50K will also go a long way to keeping things running well. Enjoy your Merc; I did mine.

Oh yeah, and the tune up isn't that tough, but a couple of the plugs are a little cramped to get to; I always used a couple extensions to get clearance around everything for those.
