Erratic Oil Pressure Gauge
I was driving down the road a few days ago and I started hearing a clicking from the dashboard. I looked at the gauge for the oil pressure and it was jumping from the top to the bottom so hard it was causing a clicking noise. I checked the oil immediatly and all was fine. Started driving again and it stopped. A few days later it started up again. Just to be safe I had the oil changed and everything was ok there. It seems to only do this every once in a while and only for a few miles and then stops. Any ideas?
Thanks PS This is an 89 S10 4.3 ltr |

Re: Erratic Oil Pressure Gauge
Sounds like a broken wire or bad sender. I would replace the sender and hope for the best.

Re: Erratic Oil Pressure Gauge
my 97 is having an issue like this i think.
when i am on the freeway, all is well. when I am slowing down to stop at light, the Check Gauage light flickers on the last part of deceleration and then comes on when I am stopped. I noticed that my oil pressure registers in the red (0) when i am just idling there. When I accelerate again, it goes back to normal. Would this be a sending unit issue as well? I just called the local autozone and they tell me either a 20 dollar part will fix it or its a sign of worn engine. -Okonia |

Re: Erratic Oil Pressure Gauge
If the motor is quiet, that would be a good place to start.
