?? Factory Painting System in 1962
Question is for someone with experience with the Factory system of painting the early 60's fords. (You may have to go ask your Dad). I am in process of restoring a 1962 Galaxie 500 and the question I have is: How the heck do you remove the front nut(s) to the fender spear backing trim without removing the fender??? Did the factory paint the front clip seperate from the rest of the body? then install it.

the front clips were installed very near the end of the assembly line. the cars were allmost complete when the front clip came down from an overhead conveyor. Everything was painted and all trim attached when the front clips were bolted on. Watched a Red 1963 1/2 fastback 2 drhdtp with 427 and 4 spd light up the tires when it was driven off the end of the line. |

Thanks for the Reply!. Sorta figured that, but still needed to confirm it. Anyway I took the front end apart piece by piece, bagged & tagged a bit extra work but this way I can clean & paint the parts.
WOW 427 with 4 on the floor! Wish I had that guys job. |
