Worst smog ever

Just failed Smog check <3

Max = Max allowed
Ave = Average score from other cars
mine = my score

Here's the numbers:

----------max---Ave---Mine--|
15mph----121----31----10---|
25mph-----96----20-----8---|

----------CO(%)--------------|
----------max---Ave---Mine--|
15mph----0.76--0.10---0.05---|
15mph----0.65--0.09---0.06---|

----------NO(ppm)-----------|
----------max---Ave---Mine--|
15mph----807---237-----7---|
25mph----746---199-----2---|

Why did I fail? My intake? nope, have the CARB sticker.. Some thing wrong with the exaust pipes? nope.. anything under the hood of the car? nope..

I was told that my car was failed because of the check engine light.

I went over to my car and put the key in and turned the power on, my check engine light lit up.. Started the car.. the light went back off.

This for some reason to me seemed very odd, because I was just told I failed because of my check engine light, when in fact I was (at the time) fairly certian that this was actualy the intended function of the said light.

The technician there sure was helpful to explain the problem to me, he pointed out that my check engine light was "obstructed" I went back to take a look and noticed that it was most certainly NOT obstructed.. He then said "Oh, I don't mean the light, I mean the "check" symbol that goes above it". It was at this point I remembered thost ricey gauge covers I put on the car a while back.. mostly as a joke, but they kinda grew on me. The reason for failure was because the factory symbol was covered by my "modified symbol" which incidently looks exactly the same as the factory one.

At this point I decided to start removing the ILLEGAL DASH MODIFICATION in order to comply with California's Anti-rice policy, however he said it's too late and if I wanted him to check the car again it would be another $70.

God I love California. <3

;_;

Now accepting donations.

Smog check here has been pretty bad for a while.. Visual inspection is the worst. I mean I could sorta understand if Visual inspection ment taking a quick look under the hood to not something like the header falling off.. but jesus, check engine light ICON ? I bet when I go into restest (a different place for sure) I'll end up failing for too many coins in the ash tray, or possibly I'll fail for that small discolored spot on the rug in the hatch.

Chipped valve cover paint any one? Low on headlight fluid? I hear all cars that were manufactured on odd years are now illegal as well.

Re: Worst smog ever

I know what your going through KenOhki. I live in So. Cal. too. Every two years I have to take my exhaust off just incase cuz I dont wanna go back for the retest. That kinda sux that you have to pay $70 bucks for a retest. Place I go to is $60 pass or fail, but if you do fail they give you a free retest within 30 days to correct anything wrong with your car. So I really dont need to take off the exhaust only if I fail, Im just too lazy to go back a second time.

But yeah for a sticker that's gotta be the worst reason for failing ever.

Great, I feel pretty bad about telling that mechanic off now, as far as I can tell that was the only "test-only" station within 10 miles of my house -.-

Test only is bullshit.

Passed on the retest. I had to remove the offending cover and cut the engine icon part off so the factory one would be visible. -.-

I am actualy pretty suprised how low the emissions results were, I was expecting much higher NO's but both tests put me under 10 PPM =o
