Is it safe?

My 10 inch sub has 8 screw holes going around the edge to hold it in the box. With the circumstances of my box, however, the screw nearest the top of the box and the screw nearest the bottom of the box, will be so close to the edge that i am afraid they will crack the wood. If i left these two screw holes empty, and only screwed in the sub with the remaining 6 screws, will i run into trouble or will the 6 screws be enough to hold the sub in as well as properly seal it? its a 3/4 inch thick fiberboard box, so i think it should probably work. input please.

Re: Is it safe?

Well not really sure, but i mean if its so close to the edge, your sub overtime might even cause it to crack. So build a new box.

No you are perfectly fine. Ive seen DD 9917's held in place by only 3 bolts.... just because there are 8 holes doesnt mean you have to use all 8 to secure the woofer properly. you are fine with 6....

Re: Is it safe?

My buddy Scott had two 12" Solobaric Kickers and i think he had 8 screws between the two. I don't think it matters that much....but that was a vented box so seal isn't really as important.

Re: Is it safe?

actually its just as important to keep a seal on the ported box because if not it fucks up the tuning unless its minimal air loss.

Re: Is it safe?

I'd say you're fine as longs as the sub ahs a rubber gasket around the basket! WOOT a rhyme...lol. But if it's plain metal against the mdf, then i'd at least get weather stripping to go between the two b4 your screw the 6 screws in! Then you'll be set!
