speaker ohm settings
my speakers are two audiobahn 1000watt 12" subwoofers (awc12t) and it says they can be 2 or 8 ohms how do i chose which i want? i think it might be depending on how you wire it please help and do you think a audiobahn 1600 watt amp would power it well i hope so i already ordered it (a8002T) your input helps but please don't come here and just diss on audiobahn

Well the less the ohms of the speakers, the less resistance to the circuit they pose. The lower the resistance, the more power the amplifier delivers. If you wire the speakers in parallel, they will pose a 1 ohm total resistance to the amplifier. If you wire the speakers in series, they will pose a 4 ohm total resistance to the amplifier. So set the speakers on 2 ohms and wire them in parallel and you will get the most power out of your system. Also, amplifiers are usually rated by their maximum total output. Seeing that 1600W is fairly powerful, it probably means that it puts out that amount, or around that amount, at a 1 ohm resistance, so I am assuming that with the setup I suggested you will get the full 1600 ohms (which will be split between the 2 speakers, putting 800 to each, so it will hopefully not blow them)

No. Try looking in the owners manual if you've got one.

Re: speaker ohm settings
you dont "set" them, it depends on how you wire them, and the numbers your getting are for one sub being wired, when you add another, multiply by one half (or devide by two whichever) , to run a searies, put the positive from the amp to the positive on sub number one, the bridge the subs together by going negitive on sub number one, to positive on sub two, the negitive on sub two back to neg on amp. for a searies, wire the positive and negitive to sub one, the run wires from sub one to sub two, not crossing them, meaning go positive and negitive amp to positive and negitive on sub number one, then go sub one positive to sub two positive, sub one negitive to sub two negitive, most applications in automotive subs are 2 ohm stable so run them either way, you really wont notice a difference

Re: speaker ohm settings
Just keep in mind the ohm load on the amp, don't cook it.

Re: speaker ohm settings
the amp is 2 ohm stable, my system consists of 2 audiobahn 12" (awc12t), and a 1600 watt amp (a8002T) how would you wire it?

Re: speaker ohm settings
either way would work fine, just to save time i would do it in a parelell (the first time i said searies, i ment parelell) that will give you a 2 ohm load, if you prefer the 4 ohm load do the extra work and wire it in a searies, it depends on how much work and time you want to put into it, 4 ohm load is easyer on the amp, also leaves room for more speakers down the road

Re: speaker ohm settings
I take it that the subs are 4 ohm, seeing how you said they could be wired for 2 or 8 ohms.Wire them in parallel and this will give you 2 ohms.Your amp is 2 ohm stable so you won't have any problems.

Wow, all that bass vibration, like an earthquake, may start loosening all your screws and nuts ;-) if it doesn't fry the alternator or you 1st ;-)

Re: speaker ohm settings
Is the 2 or 8 ohm for each speaker or for the set?
If each speaker can be 2 or 8 ohms that means they have dual 4 ohm voice coils and require additional wiring. If the 2 or 8 ohms is for the set, then that means each speaker is 4 ohms and they should be connected in parallel, to acheive 2ohms. This will give you the full power of your amp. If you connect them in series and get 8ohms you will only be getting 400 watts from your amp. |

sorry, half kidding there. other half is memory of long ago with very old vehicle with bone and vehicle shaking powerful bass. screws and bolts really were coming loose and once when standing outside it with bass booming we heard and found a bolt that dropped off underneath
