Re: HKS BOV install

What year is your car? If it's 6 speed, the install kit may hit the shifting link. That's what happened to me at first.

So I just bought some radiator hose, at an Auto place, and connected the HKS near my battery.

[battery] |------|
[HKS]----|Y-Pipe|
[Intake] |------|

The tube, coming from the y-pipe and going into the HKS, is shaped like a "U". Just find a tube like that, without having to bend it, and try it out.

Re: HKS BOV install

I've done some research on the HKS, it costs about $200, but you need to get an adapter and weld it onto the intake and that sounds like a hastle. There is another option to get it with a kit that allows to mount it withought welding yet the price jumps an astonishing $140 for the kit... is there any way to get around the expense of the kit or the welding? Are all BOVs this difficult to mount? How much would a small insignifigant weld like this cost? It welds to the Y pipe right?

Re: HKS BOV install

mine didnt require any welding, and only a $4 piece of radiator hose and a $2 radiator patch kit to relocate it a bit.

Re: HKS BOV install

So you just went to autozone or somthing? So that would work for any BOV?

Re: HKS BOV install

Well I don't have personal experience with an HKS, but from the pictures on that link, there is no welding involved, it is almost identical installation to my GReddy. Is that metal pipe attached to the HKS BOV the $140 kit you were talking about? I havn't looked at an HKS up close in person, but it seems to me you could use a similar radiator pipe (to what I used) instead of that metal pipe, and get it to work fine with a couple of hose clamps.

Re: HKS BOV install

Well the kit that HKS makes to go along with it is just radiator pipe and some clamps I think, I just don't get how it ataches to the BOV since its like trying to attach a pipe to a hole.

It seals with hex-screws and o-rings.

I have owned two (just for a week or two of amusement at the time) and they are not for performance...or perhaps 22+ PSI was the culprtit.

Re: HKS BOV install

So how does the radiator hose attach to the BOV? I just can't picture it working easily.

it goes from the Y pipe to the end of the BOV. I will post new pics of my car pretty soon and you can see.

Re: HKS BOV install

The bov usually has isn't just an opening, it has a 'neck' on it, the radiator pipe slides over this neck, and you use hose clamps to tighten it down.
