Silhouette (1999) battery replacement procedure

This isn't really as difficult as you might expect. Just remember you are dealing with a live battery so be careful to COVER any terminals or wire connections when you remove them.
1. remove the plastic cover that is clipped onto the trim. Use a screwdriver to take the clips off. The rubber gasket just slides off with a gentle pull. When you do you will be able to see the bolt that that holds the rear of the reinforcement rod that goes over the battery.
2. Now remove the bolts that hold that reinforcement rod to the frame. (two in front and the one in the rear. Slide the rod forward so that you can lift it up and move it out of the way.
3. Remove the cover of the fuse box by unscrewing the button on its top. Remove the nut that holds the main wire to the fuse box. This nut is under the red plastic cap in front of the fuse box. Also remove the bolt on the side of the fuse box that holds it to the frame. List the fuse box straight up and set it to the side over the engine. Use a stick or something to keep it there so you will be able to work on the battery area. .
4. Now the battery posts will be accessible, and this is where I HIGHLY recommend that you have a good end wrench that fits exactly on the battery post terminals bolts. Strip those bolts and you are in deep trouble. Remove the positive terminal first, being very careful not to touch any nearby metal. Then take off the negative terminal. Again make every effort not to mess those bolt heads.
5. Take off the bolt that holds the battery to its platform (rear of the battery). You'll need an extension to reach that bolt cause its well down on the side of the battery.
6. Now you can take the battery out by just moving it to the side and tilting it.
THE WHOLE PROCESS SHOULDN'T TAKE MORE THAN TWENTY FIVE MINUTES PROVIDED YOU HAVE TOOLS TO TAKE OFF THE NUTS AND BOLTS, A TEN INCH EXTENSION BAR FOR A SOCKET WRENCH, AND ABOVE ALL, AN END WRENCH THAT FITS THE BATTERY POST BOLTS EXACTLY.
