turbo and ECU question

im still new to all this, but from reading on the forum ive learned you need to upgrade your ECU to boost more than 5psi safley, in order to get the timing right so your enginge dosnt detonate. now, wouldnt the timing be different for different levels of boost? or does one upgraded ECU handle a large range of timings? i know people who drive the eclipse tune the car themselves to get timing and injection correct, but can you also do this to the nissans? especially after you have an upgraded ECU but want to boost even more.

Re: turbo and ECU question

upgrading your ecu is only one option.. its all about your fuel maps. the safc is very popular cause its cheap and very efficient. there are a couple of other options but safc is the best in my opinion. do that with new injectors if you're going turbo to start with.

1 degree of timing retarded for every psi is the general rule. ecu won't have any problems with this if its working properly.

Re: turbo and ECU question

It's half a degree for every PSI....or one degree for half a PSI...anyways, it's 1-1/2 or 1/2-1 but not 1-1.

so, just to make sure i understand this, if i get the new ECU, the more i boost, the more it will automatically adjust the timing so i will be safe? i also heard that if i get the KA engine(which i eventually will) i need a new ECU, so i might as well get teh upgraded ECU at that time
