2000 GA GT: What's the smell?
I started my car this morning and a "rotten egg" smell came out of the heater vents, it gradually went away. Later that day after driving about 10 minutes or so I was at a red light and the smell came back for a short time again. Any ideas? if so, what is involved in repairing the problem?

Try a good long highway run, get the exhaust good and hot, likely cat. conv. deposits build-up.

Check your battery. It is probably swollen and about to explode. This is what mine did. The acid leaking leads to the egg smell.

Hmmm... I would've guessed heater core, I've never even heard of those others causing it, but I guess now I have. If it's not those other things, possibly check heater core.

Re: 2000 GA GT: What's the smell?
Watch it if it is the cat. conv. when I worked at a Pontiac dealership there were a few times that the cat got plugg up a bit and would get really hot to the point that the damn thing began to glow a bright red. one actually exploded! If you "blow out the exhaust" do yourself a favor and pull over and take a look under the car if its glowing shut it down and let it cool.
Good luck. |
