Thumbs down Homeland Security At Work...

More proof Americans would be better off without it:
I was involved in a discussion about how people and police are always asking photographers to go away - as though they thought they were taking spy photographs of signs and fire hydrants and sending them to operatives of the KGB. Then somebody brought up that a friend of theirs had been added to Homeland Security's watch list - for taking photos in a public area near an air port.
Also brought up was an incident that happened in Washington state, that apparently has gotten some press up there, but I hadn't heard of it before. It's long, but somewhat amusing - and bit disturbing that our government would waste money doing something this senseless to it's own citizens.

Basically, they guy gets harrased by park rangers, police (repeatedly), and the homeland security monkeys without any reason, and without having broken any laws whatsoever.
It was frustrating before all of this crap when people asked you to go away - but to know that the federal government is seriously concerned with it's own citizens hobbies as a threat to national security, and is willing to spend time and money to harass people for not breaking any laws is pretty rediculous.

Homeland Security is a joke. They do everything, but do what they're suppose to do. When the hell is someone gonna do something about our borders, specifically Mexico? Everyone I talk to who goes hunting on the border in south Texas see's the mother fuckers coming across.

I've heard stories from people who heard stories(which doesn't give me full belief) that there are graves with just tons of bodies of mexicans who are shot and buried. Don't believe it fully, but it wouldn't surprise me. Something has got to be done and Homeland Security and anything similar is not it.

Re: Homeland Security At Work...

This is a tough one. If they go too far, people get angry. If they don't go far enough and something happens, people get angry. It's lose/lose. I propose a better solution- fix our foreign policy.

This was funny for me to read, in a way. My father has a mysterious government "record" he tells me due to some anti-war activities in the 60's that he is reluctant to discuss (he laughs and refuses to elaborate). He travels quite a bit for business and always has. After 9/11, he has been pulled aside "randomly" EACH AND EVERY time he goes through security. It stops being coincidence after a while. It's actually quite humiliating for him when the other passengers have to file past as he is being questioned and searched. Luckily, he has come to see the humor in it. Once you get on Big Brother's shit-list, you are there to stay, I guess.

Not necessarily. Besides, who says that the Mexicans are the only ones crossing into America? It shouldn't matter anyway. The border and mass flood of people has to be minimized greatly in my opinion.

I dont believe mexicans are the only people who can jump fences.

If we cant monitor immigration into mexico, and we cant monitor immigration from mexico into the US; there is a huge gaping hole in our "homeland security". I think homeland security was a great idea, however, having it run by idiots is not. But I personally havent invested much time researching the issue, so I don't know much about it. I just know that I'm glad the biggest issues with our homeland security is that we are harassing innocent people, instead of catching terrorits left and right.

Maybe something is being done right somewhere?
