ghetto supercharger

is it possible to build your own ghetto supercharger? im thinking all youd need is to put a fan in housing and have the air blown out by the fan lead into teh intake, and hook the fan up to the engine. isnt this all you need?

Thats the only functional "ghetto" supercharger I know of. Once again, a fan in a pipe doesn't do anything.

Re: ghetto supercharger

Well about the best you could hope for is a smog air pump shooting air into the air cleaner or duct to be ingested as sort of ram air. You'd get some ram air effect without the need to be moving at high speed. Wouldn't be much though.

but wouldnt the fan in the pipe suck in air from the engine bay and force it into the intake, thus forced induction? or you coudl even build the fan into the intake, so as it turns it sucks in more air. i didnt think of cleaning the air, but that shouldnt be much of a problem.

The engine itself will suck in more air than a fan (e-ram) can force in. Its nothing but a restriction in the intake.

Re: ghetto supercharger

Fans aren't compressors. Read a book how compressors work and you will understand that a compressor isn't that simple to design and build.

When one considers what a used compressor cost, it isn't worth the money to try to build one yourself.

Re: ghetto supercharger

Yeah, doesn't J.C. Whitney have a kit for that? And it increases mileage 25% too!

Re: ghetto supercharger

Yup. You can put 25% more air in your engine, but 25% less fuel huh?
