Arrow neon chugging when hit the gas

hey guys, I noticed a problem when I hit the gas more than usuall. Once I hit the gas, it doesn't rev high, but actually bogs down like it doesn't get gas or air, and it take about 1.5 to two seconds and it finally starts to go, although it does feel like a hickup or cough during the bogging, i don't think this is a transmission, but other threads have spoke about vacuum hoses and pcv valves, and I wonder if that could be it. Also when it finally does go sometimes, I hear a clank under the drivers side hood area. This neon only has 58,000 miles and a 2001. Any imput would be helpful.

Re: neon chugging when hit the gas

good luck no one on here will help you dude. I have been trying to figure it out for litk the past three weeks posting stuff as i go trying to figure out what is going on. It does sound a lot like your hoses the vaccum hoses check them and make sure they are tight. Also make sure the EGR is nice and tight. Hope that helps you out a little.

Re: neon chugging when hit the gas

The EGR is on the right side of the motor if you are looking into the motor from the front of car. There is a metal pipe that comes out the side of the intake manifold between the battery and your intake manifold. that pipe connects to the EGR. Its hot if your car has been running so watch out. Im not sure on what it stands for completly but it resurculates the unused gas's back into the intake tract. Evapartive gas resurculator is a good name for it i would think. good luck

I did take a look at the hoses last night, they all look good, and where they are conected, the rubber doens't look cracked at all, but the egr, I will check that. but what do you mean by tight, what should I look for in this matter. So thank you, and if it helps, it only does this when mostly going under 25 mph, and from a complete stop, and stepping on the gas a little harder than usuall.

Re: neon chugging when hit the gas

Mine does it no matter what speed im going i hit the gas and it jerks and jerks and jerks. Got rid of the code 25 vaccum leak or IAC. But still have code 24 Throttle Position sensor. But both TPS AND IAC are brand new. Dont have a clue to what it could be. Just make sure that its tight by takign a rachet and turn it to see if there is any play like turn it but hard to were it will strip.

Re: neon chugging when hit the gas

Hey I was having the same problem and was getting codes 24 and 25. Both sensors were new and vaccum hoses were tight. EGR was tight. Today it got really bad and I had to pull over. Look under hood mess with wires unhook TPS and re hook Resent comuter. Then Remebered that i blew my fuse to my Ignition the fuse inside the car. But when it blew i put in a 20a fuse instead. So I took a fuse from somewere else and put in a 15a and worked great all the way home and so far 3 more times i drove it today.

I did the same thing. You should try it before you go spending to much money.

Re: neon chugging when hit the gas

Are the fuel injectors buzzing up during the acceleration?
If you put you finger on the injectors while the engine is running, the tick tick at a uniform rate. asyou slowly increase speed, the injector pulse rate increases. If you punch-it, then you'll notice the injectors zip 3 pulses or 4 to match the increased air flow so the engine doesn't choke out.

Are you getting the "zip" sound upon acceleration?

Original post was in February of 2005...why revive dead and old posts? I would imagine the problem would have been fixed by now.
