Smile GMC Transmission Problems

Starting a class action law suit against GM. My attorney wants to know who all has had transmission problems with their GM vehicles. Reply to my thread and let me know Name, Address, Phone Number, Year/Make/Model of the vehicle. My attorney is very aggressive about this because he has 2 2003 Chevrolet Tahoes.

I have a '01 Gmc Sierra with a 4L60E tranny, pulled it out & had it rebuilt. While out I noticed that there was a remain tag on it. That means this will be the 3rd known tranny in my truck. Truck only has 80,000 miles..... Gotta love 'em.

Re: GMC Transmission Problems

tranny blewon my 91 2500 4l80E, not just went bad I mean blew, the planatary disintegrated, only thing that could be saved to be reused was the housing. and even then it had gouges from the internal disentagration, I was not being hard on it, doing neutral drops, or anything of the sort, just an all of a sudden thing, but then gm has never been known for a great tranny, it takes alot of $ and the best possable aftermarket parts to get the most out of a gm tranny, and even then it's a crap shoot, "in my experience" I have blown many a 350 and 400, rebuilt both styles and had good and bad luck even after the rebuild, I put all B&M internals w/a shift kit into the 4L80E I have now, I have had a trans cooler since I have owned the truck, 40.000 since the rebuild and all is good so far, as well I only use B&M trick shift, this only because I'am a creature of habit and have used it for years after every re-build.
If your really interested in my trans experience I can e-mail you the info you requested, I keep all reciepts and still have the one from the trans shop that re-built mine.

My sun shell also broke back in july of 2004-- disentegrated all of the gears also when it happened!!! Makes you wonder about gm using bad parts for these vehicles-- sun shell gear is pressed into the gear spline--- (HMMM)

Re: GMC Transmission Problems

I am very interested in this legal action, I would like to know what the specific problems are with the 4L60E transmissions...wiring...shift solenoid...assembly?

I have a 1999 S-10 Ext. Cab 4WD with the 4.3L & 4L60E Automatic Transmission that no longer has Overdrive and slips on the shift from 2nd to 3rd.

I own a 2003 sierra 4x4 and frankly it's not a reliable truck as they state in the reviews. I had exagerated problems whit this truck...steering problems, tranfercase problems, differential prob.,motor knocking!!!, rides like a german tank over minor holes or cracks on the road,,and big time transmission problems. At 58 000 km My tranmission let go and what a game to get them to change it seems that they just dont want to addmit to there engeneering problems... they checked the rear tires for wear and even looked into the trailler hitch for any sign of me pulling something!! The guy at the garrage told me that if he would have seen anything that would have shown abuse of any kind they wouldn't cover the cost! Funny how they try to save monney and just throw the bill at the custumer. No sevice and so ...no more gm product not even a delco spark plug!!! Now I have 89 000km and the transmission is starting to slip aggain mind you that it always has that (back lash) they call it you can hear a clunk in between the gueers and they alway use the old "can not dupplicate the problem" but they said that it's normal!!! You know this truck cost me over 1000$ a month and all it is is a peace of garbage. They sell it to you and then your on your own? Is that what they call gm commitment?! anyway my e-mail add is: [email protected] and If you need any more information just write to me...be glad to get gm to fix there over priced junk! ohh and by the way everyone you talk to whit these trucks have the same transmission problem that's why they have the T.S.B. for our concern...and but there breiff explanation to protect there SO called image! They have one of those for every problem of there cars or trucks.

Re: GMC Transmission Problems

I have owned numerous GM vehicles with 4l60-e transmissions and all vehicles have had over 100K miles on them.
Only 1 had any trans concern which was a simple fix..I don't believe its an issue and not worthy of a lawsuit.

I have a 2003 Gmc Sierra with 4.10 rear gears. Differential is locking up on corners and scrubbing the tires. Have you had the same problem?

Well first of all I wish you the best of luck to have them change it!!! cuz to them my truck was to gm's spects as they told me not just for that problem but pretty much everything else that went or is going wrong whit my truck, the part is the (4x4 modual) whitch they had to change and still after it kept doing it just sometimes, but after a few more visits they reprogram the computer and since then it's ok...knock on wood! Whit all the problems I had whit this f__k'in truck Word of advice...when you go to the dealership -meen buisiness! You probably paid alot of monney for this truck ,so get mad if it doesn't go your way and word of advice; make sure you have alot of custumers arround when you want something! They want to keep them comming back $$$

I agree with you that these transmissions might have problems but
you honestly think u can win against general motors million dollar lawyers? Not critisizing u but your best bet is to take the money
you are going to spend on a lawyer and go put a down payment on
a ford.....

did you know that the 4l60 has been arround since correct me if I'm wrong but 1982-83 and since then they always called it the same but as time evolved they had to keep up, but still all they did was turn a good simple transmission (that shifted ok whit no big problems and turned it to a computer assist transmission) A Gm mechanic told me this so it must be true. He quoted that when you have something that works good why change it??! mabe true or not but I beleve it becouse I owned 3 gmc sierra one 1998 whitch was an ok truck whit mediocur problems ...an 2001, 2500 slt(second hand) whitch had nothing but problems... and thinking that gm fixed there mechanicle isues...Stupid me I purchased a 2003 sierra slt and........Here we go again!!! Whit the visits to the dealer whit the identicle problems that the 2001 had??! Their engeneering just isn't right!! In 2000 I purchased a Toyota tacoma...the diference whit the toyota was that I had a vibration problem...whitch wasn't all that bad but at least they admited to it and they worked on it untill they fixed it -no question asked. other than that in two years and 164 000km nothing elese than regular maintnance. Gm just plainly doesn't back up their products and more and more cumsumers are noticing as they thought that Gmc's were good car's(and they could be!) but they rather have the comsumer deal whit their engeneering mistakes than to have to fix #####'s of vehicles. If you look on the internet you wont have to look for to long; They have thousands and thousands of owners whitch are stuck whit lemons and there lawyers will do everything to minamise gm's cost and maximise their Image...that's why they get payed big $$$. But unionised we can beet the big industries at their own games...
P.S. I dont have anything against your beleave's and I envy you for having had good experiances whit your gm vehicles cuz not everyone is as lucky and has the same opinion. peace dude

Unhappy Re: Re: Re: GMC Transmission Problems

I have a 2004 1/2T 4x4 Sierra SLE and the damned transmission clunks between 2nd and 3rd gears. Sometimes I feel a slip in the tranny/clutch when taking off from a stop light.

Dealer says this is a "normal" defect GM built into the tranny to improve gas mileage. Sounds to me like a bunch of lies!

Does anybody else have these problems?

Re: GMC Transmission Problems

The 2/3 clunk accompanied by the same clunk on the 3/2 downshift can be normal, has been for years, " tolerance stack" in the drivetrain. Accel slip needs to be looked into further.
