WANTED: Oil Cooler.

Hey,

I recently did the JDM 6 bolt 4G63T Swap but I am missing the stock oil cooler. Just wondering if anyone had one for sale or any real good ideas on where to pick one up, I am sure eBay may be the best bet.

Thanks for any help!

Re: WANTED: Oil Cooler.

What type of cooler is that motor setup for? The two options are the 90 style air-oil cooler, or the 91-94 coolant/oil mixer. Either way, I wouldnt use the sandwich style oil mixer. Do the air cooler, or none at all. I have no idea what the jdm motors used.

Re: WANTED: Oil Cooler.

Hmmm...that is a good question that I really don't know the answer to.

Anyone know anything about that? I will try and do some search on that as well.

Thanks!

Re: WANTED: Oil Cooler.

If there is a piece that is bolted to the oil filter housing, and the bolt that holds it on is also the stud for the filter, you have the shyte sandwich cooler setup. If the threads for the filter are PART OF the housing, you may have an air cooler housing, and there should be a couple ports for the lines. If you go to machV I know they have some pics of this housing and the ports, if that helps. Turbotrix sells them too. Even if you decide to stay with whatever housing it comes with, at least you will know what kind of cooler you need. HMm, when you say its missing the stock cooler what are you refering to? That may help.

Re: WANTED: Oil Cooler.

I think it has two ports because all we have done is run some oil line between the two where the cooler should be. does that help?

Re: WANTED: Oil Cooler.

So it sounds like you have the housing for external cooler, thats good The good news is you can use any oil coller, like one from summit, etc. Just use the lines and fittings you need. Its hard to find the stock units from the 90 DSMs in good shape, and you can never really trust the inside of the core to be clean (you're supposed to take it to a radiator shop to get flushed properly). So going new is a good idea anyway. I use hte same housing, but I JB welded some stock banjo bolts closed and just block those ports off.

Re: WANTED: Oil Cooler.

so it is as simple as that. Good to hear, that is kinda what I was thinking but I wasn't sure that it should actually be that simple. Thanks Kevin!
