Help!!!! Big Problem!!! Confused!!!

Im confused. Ill be driving in my 98 lude for about a half an hour or so, when all of a sudden Im in first gear hitting 5000 rpms and going about 5 mph. Same in 2nd. I try to accelerate but cant get past at most 20 mph. Idk what it could be. The problem was first diagnosed by my very reputable mechanic as my clutch, so I had it replaced about a week ago and the problem is still there. I havent gotten a chance to tell him yet. In the meantime can anyone think of any other problems this might be. Thanks.

hmmm... it does sound like a clutch problem... then again, he replaced it. I have one question to ask... is it an SH? or a base model...

sounds like your reputable mechanic is not really reputable. take your car back to your reputable mechanic and tell him he need to redo his reputable work on fixing your clutch.

Re: Help!!!! Big Problem!!! Confused!!!

wait - before you go trashing his mechanic, if he has an SH model, it may be the ATTS screwin up.

homer2nyce, check the transmission fluid in your ATTS unit - if it is low or empty it will not function properly and your power will never get to your wheels - it will just make the gears spin and the motor rev. its like an automatic tranmission - if the ATTS unit has no fluid it forces it into neutral.

Re: Help!!!! Big Problem!!! Confused!!!

If the mechanic was very reptuable then he would have taken the car for a test drive to make sure that the problem is fixed.
But like you said it could be the ATTS. Check the fluid and then if it does not fix it take it back to him.

Kkk... First of all the lude is a base (no ATTS). Second the car WAS test driven by him. As I said in the post, this happens after about a half hour or so, so a test drive wouldnt have covered it.

Ok 1st you could leave the attitude somwhere else. 2nd Like I said before in the post, "if he was a reputable mechanic he would have test drove the car to make sure the problem is fixed." <<-- That mean when you took the car to him you obveously told him that it happened after about half an hour, so he should have made sure that the problem did not come back after half an hour or so. And 3rd It is a lot easier to get friends to help you out than people you pissed off with a bad attitude.

This is an automatic car...? There is a computer for the tranny, if this is the case, and a wire could be loose.

Re: Help!!!! Big Problem!!! Confused!!!

It can't be an automatic if he just had the clutch changed. If it is an automatic and your machanic told you it was the clutch than he is playing you for a fool.

Re: Help!!!! Big Problem!!! Confused!!!

Maybe it has something to do with the pressure plate. Other than that, there's no reason for the engine to rev without moving the car so I'm lost.

Re: Help!!!! Big Problem!!! Confused!!!

Did he change the whole clutch kit or just the clutch disk? As a rule you should always replace the clutch disc, pressure plate and throw out bearing at the same time.

Re: Help!!!! Big Problem!!! Confused!!!

im sure if he was a reputable mechanic he would have done that... but then again... i had this problem with my camaro on a brand new clutch... and there is only one explanation i can come up with - cheap parts. it was hot as hell and i was driving through New York City over the GW bridge.. clutch started slippin like hell... i was like - wtf!! brand new clutch!!! i pulled over - let it cool off and it was fine - never happened again either. i think it is something similar to brake fade - it gets hot and overused for a short period of time and starts to slip. Maybe you should learn to drive? :-P (these are the jokes my friend)
