Battery drain problem???

Hello Everyone. I have a 2001 Yukon and replaced the battery about 3 months ago. If my truck sits for more than a day, the battery will be totally dead. I have checked pretty much everything that is aftermarket to make sure it is off when the key is off. I took the battery back 2wice and they said the battery is good and my charging system is also good. Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this problem would be appreciated. Thanks.

Some help to get you in the ballpark:
If you have a ampmeter connect it in series with the battery & ck for current flow, then pull fuses one by one to isolate which circuit is causing the current drain.

Check the alternator. Sometimes it doesn't recharge the battery so the battery is depleted when driving and then when you park it and then want to restart it, it doesn't have enough juice to start.

I had the alternater checked and it was fine. It showed that it was charging at 14.6 volts. This one is a stumper for me. Thanks again.

Have you checked to see if the dome lights are coming back on?

My yukon did this, sometimes hours later. Turned out to be defective dome light switch.

As a matter of fact, mine went dead last week after being OK for about 1 month. I kept watching it and the dome lights came on a while after I shut it off.

Thanks for the reply myhd. Is there a way to test the switch to see if it is bad or not? Thanks again.

Re: Battery drain problem???

Hi all. I kept checking on the truck overnight and it is not the dome lights. It is cold here in Ohio, and I noticed the frost on the windshield was melted over the defrost areas. Could this be the problem? If so where do I start looking? Thanks again.

hey, my yukon did the same thing for the longest time. I had a alram instaled profesionaly and i assumed that was the problem so i took it back to them. They said that the reason it was draining was because the light under the hood that you turn on and off manualy was left on. after that it hasnt happend again so my advice to you is check that.

Re: Battery drain problem???

I had a problem with my original keyless entry module turning on my dome light in the middle of the night. A relay stuck or something. I removed it and replaced its functions with an aftermarket alarm. No more Middle-Of-The-Night-Dome-Light.

Check the battery cables. There was a silent recall on them because the AC Crapo batteries would leak acid down inside them and rot them from the inside out.
