Unhappy My Skyline Keeps Pinging Even With Retard Timing

Hi Everybody,

Could Some people give me a few pointers on why my car still pings with my timing fully retarded sometimes it only pings at a certain rev bout 2-3 thou revs..........

Sometimes it pings at high revs I only have the car at standard boost...

Maybe the Fuel Pump.... And does anyone know how to reset the standard ECU?????

Please Help me I need Heaps.

Thanx OUT THERE

2 reset the ecu, disconect the battery, and pump the brake pedal a few times with the ignition on , tis will get rid of any residual current
reconect the battery , hey presto , reset

pinging

What fuel are you running? Skylines (and most other japanese sports cars) are designed to run on 98 octane fuel or 96 if you can't get 98. just by using 91 in your car you will cause severe knocking / pinging/ detonation under the right conditions

hope this helps

p.s. have you had the mixtures checked? running lean can cause severe engine damage and knocking too

I accidently ran my R32 GTS-T which is less likely to ping that the R33's on BP Premium FUEL.. At the time I didn't know that the Premium was only a 95 octane.

I sent the car in to get the timing fiddled with and a fuel pressure reg bleed kit to lean off the fuel a little and Tim @ RPM had trouble even advancing the thing 1 degree. It would ping its head off.

Later on I filled up with 98 octane ULTIMATE and it made a huge difference, almost could advance the thing like 15degrees before it would start to ping.

I ended up advancing it to just over 20degrees and with 12psi boost after the exhaust she made 152rwkw.

Don't buy the usual premium crap.. If it doesn't say Synergy or ULTIMATE don't buy it.. We don't get the other optimax down here in adelaide so i don't touch it any how as in a RON test it came up with the lowest octane rating. it is still 98 but.. i think ultimate came up top with a ron of 98.8.
