89 240sx question
i saw an 89 240sx for $600. the guy said its a project car, and im considering buying it. my main question is, would a KA engine fit in it? how much woudl it roughly cost? and how much would a custom turbo kti roughyl cost(i find the indiviudal pieces myself)? also, what can this engine safeley boost at on stock internals? any help would be apprecaited so i can decide whether or not to get this car before someoen else does

Re: 89 240sx question
for the engine it might run you about 1500 for a new 1 but you will also need a wiring harness ecu etc.

what are some sites to get them new from? on this forum i only found sites selling the SR engine. now, im planning on turboing the car and getting an upgraded ECU anyways, so if i need the ECU ill just get that, but how much would a wiring harness cost? and would i need to replace the engine mounts?

Re: 89 240sx question
guys, there's a really good thread on turboing the ka already. and tipota, if you want to swap a ka24de (the stock 89 had a ka24e) then logik posted some stuff in another thread too.. read around before you ask questions cause they're literally right in fron of you.
one more thing, if you're spending $1500 on a new ka, save yourself the time, give me the money and forget about owning a 240 cause thats the most ridiculous price i've ever seen. search on ebay for sellers with ka's and go to their websites for more info. other than that all your questions have been answered in other threads in the last 2 days

Re: 89 240sx question
I own a 90 240sx (same "KA24E" motor as the 89) & a 97 & former owner of 93 drop top. The 93 & 97 had the KA24DE 16v Dual cam motor rated at 155hp. My 90 has the 12v singal cam motor rated at 135hp. The 90 is the fastest of them all thru the 1/4 mile. The resson why is 1. the motor is lighter so the car is lighter. 2. The timeing chain is shorter & has less resistance on the crank. 3. singal cams wind up faster. The 91-98 KA24DE motor is faster at upper mid-range & top end speeds, but who you gona' race from 85mph-130mph. The down side to a KA24E (88-90 240) is the head gasket blows easy so be careful at high rev's or you will blow it up. you can use a 35-55hp shot of N2O from about 2700rpm-5200rpm. also the timing chain needs replaced every 70-80 thousand miles. If you have to replace a head gasket or blow up your motor you may want to swap out a KA24DE or SR20DET then simply because they have more aftermarket upgrades.

Re: 89 240sx question
KAE is from 89-90, not 88-90.
