99 Silverado Fuel Pump?

I just bought a 99 Silverado with a 5.3L from a friend. I have a couple of questions if anyone can help me out.

1. He disconnected something that sounded electrical in the rear of the truck. Said it was running the battery down because it continued to run after the truck was off. Now the ABS and parking brake light stay on all of the time. Any clues as to what this might be?

2. Truck takes a little while turning over to start. It always starts but sometimes just takes 4-5 sseconds of turning over to crank. Could this be the fuel pump? Could these 2 be related? I called a dealer and they gave me a price on a pump and installation of about $650. Sounds kind of steep. I called Autozone and they said there are 2 different kind of pumps depending on a tag on the pump that is in there. One is about $275 and the other is about $350. Does this sound right? I would appreciate the help.

Just a Thought

I'm not trying to be a wise ass but why don't you just ask your friend what it was that he unhooked? Or ask if those likghts and starting problems ever occoured when he/she owned it.

ABS Lights

I'm not sure about your cold starts. Maybe you need to do a tune up: New plugs, wires, etc. Clean your EGR Valve, new air filter. How many miles on your truck?? Before I did anything drastic, change the fuel filter. Any oil/lube shop that do that for you. That's the first thing I'd try. If you have close to 100,000 miles, go ahead and put new plugs and wire in it as well....and do the other stuff mentioned above.

Lots of people have this ABS problem. What your buddy did was take out the ABS fuse. The ABS pump get stuck on, running down your battery. It sounds like the fuel pump, but it's not. The repair is costly if you go to a dealership or shop. I'm 100% sure this is your problem, and this is how I fixed mine. I know the ebay page is long, but it has all your answers. My shop took my old unit off, and installed the new one for about $70. So, I had $230 in the repair. Most place want at LEAST $800 to fix the problem.

Re: 99 Silverado Fuel Pump?

bigdawg25...Phishin is right about the ABS fuse and he is giving you good advice on Circuit Solutions on eBay...Gavin at Circuit Solutions saved me about $1500.00 from what the dealer wanted. Call him or email him first to figure out just exactly what you need or don't need. The good news is that while it's a pain in the butt to get to/work on the EBCM unit and the ABS pump it's not really all that hard.
