need help ASAP!!

hey guys my truck just started making a weird noise, when i get up into higher rpms my transmission starts making a whineing sound i have noticed it in 1st scnd and 3rd gears...i dont have a tach so i dont know exactly what rpm im am at when it does it...and it goes away when i shift to the next gear..anyone know what the deal is with it?

did you check the oil? It's about the only thing that you can do without a transmission shop taking it for a test drive.

If the oil level is good I'd change it if it was my truck, then just run it (locally only) until it starts popping out of gear... or other more serious problems

i just changed the only less then a month ago so its not that...i talked to a mechanic today and the said it was the pilot bearing....how hard is that to change

Unfortunately your mechanic is probably right. the pilot bearing is is located in the back of your engine block its where the very tip of your transmission shaft lives. You could either pull the motor or drop the tranny to get to it wich ever is more conveniant for you. the bearing is pressd into the block so you'll need a slide hammer with the right attachment to get it out. a socket and a hammer wich may not be the proper way to do it will get the new one pressed in.
