tie rods

so i just bought the car a week ago. i knew it had some slight damage to the front left fender, but i didnt suspect any damage to the steering or frame. well, the car just started to shake a little bit, i can feel it coming from that corner. i took it in to get the wheels rotated and balanced, and the guy said the front left was a little loose. i suspect a tie rod, since the tire moved side to side. i dont want to drive much longer with it going like that because of awkward tire wear and further damage. so, my question is, does this sound right? with the tie rod and all, or could it be something else? also, im taking it in to get it checked out tonight, just a quick look over, anythign i should know before i talk to the mechanic? and if its expensive to fix, could i buy the part from the local shop and do it myself or is it a dealership part only, and is it difficult to replace



also, i noticed a slight knock at the end of the shift movement. its usually with the clutch almost all the way out, and if i let off the gas, and push it back in with a little force, it does it as well. it sounds almost like an engine mount. how much do those usually run? and does this sound right? i figure id have to hoist the engine off the mount to replace it, how much do i have to disconnect?

sais the front end is tight. the mech suggested i rotate the tires and/or try switching the two fronts to see if the problem switches sides. i think the rim is a tad bent or the tire is worn wierd. i just had it in for tire work though, had em all checked and stuff, and i guess they were all balanced. the car definetly need alignment cuz the steering wheel is at 11 oclock when driving.
