I have a 95 GC with the 4.0 I6 and I think that the 95 is about the newest you will be able to install. Like most manufactuers, they would most likely have a mid-life touch up for the model. The 1st series of GC was 93-98, with 95 right in the middle. So I dont think that youll have much luck with the 98 4.0. Why are you swapping engines? The I6 is a fantastic engine that you can really put miles on. My friend saw a GC 4.0 with 250,000 miles on it. I wouldnt swap it just yet, unless it has some mechanical failure. So anyway, you may need to find another doner.

Im not saying you CANT do it, I just think that its not worth doing. But do what you want, its your Jeep.
