KA24DE questions

I have some questions about the KA24DE, but first of all the reason I'm asking these is because I want to put a KA24DE into my 510. The main question I have is: does the KA24DE have anything like VVT, so that if I were to transplant the KA24DE into my car and not use any of the stock wiring and instead use a HALTECH or an SDS EFI system, would the engine still run, or is there extra crap that the stock ECU controls that is essential to the engine's ability to run, or its performance. Also, how much power do you think a KA24DE would make if I: removed the AC, got rid of the EGR, took out the catalytic converter, opened up the exhaust, opened up the intake, and installed SOHC pistons raising the compression to 11.1:1.

Thank you any answers would be much appreciated.

No theres nothing like VVT, and if you are going to do all that to the KA i think it would be fast as shit. I would say if you added radical cams and head work it would be like maybe 200hp+ at the wheels, which would be good for an N/A engine and you would have lots of torque. I say do underdrive pulleys and lightened flywheel too. Ive always wanted to test all that out on a KA because i think they are good engines.

I have another similar question: does the ECU control the ignition or is that seperate, and simply between the distributor and the coil?

Re: KA24DE questions

The ECU does control timing. You can set base timing on the distributor to change total timing. An SDSEFI system or a Haltech would work well. Same goes for AEM EMS, Linkplus, Autronic, Tec3, ect.

Re: KA24DE questions

Image a 510 with a 500whp KA-T....that'd be sick...even though it would have a slow 1/4 because of traction issues, but anyways, it would be sick.

Re: KA24DE questions

Trap speeds would be ungodly though.

In a perfect world, I would do a four-link suspension with a spooled Ford 9" rear-end and some big ass slicks.

No that wouldnt be a very streetable rearend, but the 510 does have good rear suspension, and if you were to flare it you could get some pretty wide tires on it, so: In a perfect world I'd redo the front suspension to add make it AWd and add the Skyline ATTESSA transmission and the rest of the system, and put drag radials all around ... too bad the world isn't perfect.

Thanks for the answers
