Angry 1996 regal service engine light

I have been fighting this light for nearly two years. I own an obd2 scan tool and always get a p0441 code for incorrect purge flow. I have replaced the gas cap the purge solonoid and made sure that all vacum lines are ok please help me figure out this problem. I live in NY and the new emissions testing has started, my car has until september. the clock is ticking and I am at a loss here

Have you replaced the evaporative charcoal cannister? It may be clogged. Plus check for proper vacuum back to and from the intake manifold for the purge cycle to work correctly.

I'm not sure about a 1996 Regal but on 1997 and up models it is located
on the driver's side rear by the fuel tank.

Good luck!

The code is basically telling you that the purge flow is going the wrong way, not that there is a leak. So it sounds like you just have some vacuum lines connected in wrong locations. The vacuum solenoids are similar for either engine (3.1L or 3.8L). I would first try switching the two vacuum lines around that connect to your purge solenoid if you haven't already tried that yet. Otherwise I would just ensure that all the lines are connected to the correct places. It doesn't sound like you should need to replace any parts. Does the engine run and idle ok?

My '95 Regal 3.8L has two charcoal canisters (I think...I'm not sure if they both are really charcoal canisters, but one of them is for sure). Both of which are on the drivers side. One is up front and sits under where the battery sits. The other one is in the back of the car, just behind the gas filler neck. Your '96 Regal should be similar.

The one under the battery is the vacuum reservoir. At least on a 92, but it's probably the same for all years.

Thumbs up problem seems to be solved

I found a vacum line that connects to the purge solonoid that had a split in the connection end. rather than replace it i tried some electrical tape and so far so good. now that i seem to have fixed the problem i will probably replace the line. i just didnt want to buy it and have that not be the problem. let you know if anything comes up again. thanks for all your help.
